Bishop’s Stortford Town Council has approved £223,841 in grants for sports clubs, arts groups and two schools – but football funding will have to wait for extra time.
During an all-day meeting, members scrutinised 21 applications for a total of £907,229.48 and made grants to 15 projects, ranging from £400 for the Stortford Strollers walking basketball team to buy new equipment to £38,400 for Bishop’s Stortford Bowling Club to purchase an artificial outdoor playing surface, £36,000 for Bishop’s Stortford Squash and Racketball Club to improve energy efficiency and £30,000 for Bishop’s Stortford Community Sports Club towards its bicentenary pavilion project.
Other big winners included The Bishop’s Stortford High School, granted £35,000 of the £50,000 it asked for to provide audio-visual equipment for a new auditorium and drama studio at its new campus at St James’ Park opening later this year, and £15,000 of £21,000 it requested to equip a new strength and conditioning gym at the site.
