The Fylde Rugby Community Foundation, is celebrating after being awarded National Lottery funding to support its work and ensure the continuation of their highly impactful Walking Rugby programme. Delivered in Fylde and newly established sessions now taking place in Garstang, the programme will use the funding to provide 12-months of weekly accessible walking rugby and social activities to people aged 50 + – expanding their community reach across West Lancashire.
Walking Rugby Programme Lead, Amelia Summersgill-Smith, says: “We are pleased to receive this vital funding from the National Lottery. This financial support will enable us to continue our work with our Walking Rugby Programme, making our sessions even more accessible and carry on being free for the local community within Fylde and Garstang.
Walking Rugby is a fantastic way for people of all abilities to stay active, socialise, and enjoy the game but in a fun and supportive environment. With this funding from the National Lottery, we can now expand our sessions, provide better equipment, and ensure that everyone who wants to participate has the opportunity to do so. We are committed to creating a sense of community throughout our sessions and continue to promote a healthy lifestyle through our programmes, and this grant is a significant step towards achieving those goals…”
