SALISBURY’s female walking netball team were crowned champions in a tournament held in memory of a former player.
Salisbury Ladies Walking Netball Team attended a walking netball tournament in Corsham, held in memory of their former player Sylvia Higgs, who continued to play with them despite living with dementia.
The team was also raising money for Dorothy House in memory of another much-loved former Corsham player who died in 2024.
The tournament was the first time the team had played together – and they were thrilled to be crowned the winners in every single game.

A spokesperson from the team has said: “We’d like to express our gratitude to Barbara Yeates and Diane for their coaching and continued support. A special thank you also to the event organisers and to the husbands who kindly helped out in the tea room and kept the scoreboard running—your support truly made the day extra special!
“It wasn’t just the netball that made the day so enjoyable; we also had some lovely chats on the journey to and from the tournament, which made it all the more memorable.
“We play every Monday from 5 to 6 pm at Five Rivers Leisure Centre in Salisbury. If you’d like to join in or give walking netball a try, we’d love to welcome you!”
