Bartestree & Lugwardine Walking Cricketers Shine at National Competition

Bartestree & Lugwardine Walking Cricket Club enjoyed a memorable day at the National Walking Cricket Competition, held at the iconic New Road, home of Worcestershire County Cricket Club.

Representing Herefordshire against teams from across England, the side produced an outstanding performance, winning three of their four matches and showcasing the excellent progress they have made as a team.

The event brought together walking cricket clubs from around the country for a day of friendly competition, camaraderie and celebration of the game. Alongside the cricket, players enjoyed a delicious lunch and the unique opportunity to play at one of the country’s most recognisable cricket grounds.

Team captain Roger was delighted with the team’s performance and the experience of competing on such a prestigious stage.

“I am proud of my team and how far we have come in a short space of time. To come and play cricket here is very special, and to win some games against opposition from all parts of the country was a huge bonus!”

Walking cricket continues to grow in popularity across Herefordshire, providing an enjoyable, inclusive way for people of all abilities to stay active, meet new people and continue playing the game they love.

The Somerset Cricket Foundation Walking Cricket League competition, sponsored by Rajpoot Indian Restaurant and Home Science International Food, was once again hosted at the Highbridge Hub at Highbridge YMCA. Five teams from across Somerset took part: defending champions Weston, alongside Highbridge and Yeovil, with two new hubs—Bridgwater and Wells—joining the competition for the first time. The league was played over five rounds, from mid-February to mid-March, and featured some excellent cricket throughout.

A combined team of players from our Colchester and Chelmsford walking cricket hubs achieved a fantastic victory at Lords this week. The team competed against MCC, Middlesex and Surrey in a 16 over fast paced series. They played a total of 6 games throughout the day at the Lords indoor cricket centre. After losing their first two matches with a close margin, they fought back well to win the next 4 matches to win the competition overall.

Old Woking’s men’s walking cricket team, The Remnants, are holding a come and try day for new players. The free event will take place at the club from 10.30am to 2pm on Wednesday, September 2. Visitors will have the opportunity to meet members of The Remnants, take part in informal cricket activities, and learn more about the game.
