Over 50s have found a safe space away from the cold and rising energy prices thanks to a number of ‘warm spots’.
These spaces, which host activities such as the walking football sessions at Carlisle United, are funded by a special grant awarded to charities by the Cumbria Community Foundation and Cumberland Council.
Warm Spots have been set up within venues such as village halls, community centres, and churches, to provide a lifeline for those struggling to heat their homes.
The football club trust, for example, has used a grant of £500 to expand its weekly walking football clubs for over 50s.
Sessions now include hot drinks and snacks, alongside advice on budgeting and reducing utility bills…
