Sidford Tennis Club is set to host an Age UK national event promoting the benefits of Walking Tennis.
The event, scheduled for June 17, aims to highlight the health and social advantages of this adapted form of tennis.
The club currently runs two popular Walking Tennis groups for Age UK Devon on Tuesdays.
These sessions, led by LTA tennis coach Sue Wiltshire, have been well-received.
She said: “Walking Tennis makes tennis accessible to all, regardless of injuries, age, or disabilities, in a relaxed and encouraging environment.
“It enables you to still be part of the tennis community if you have played before, but equally is easy to pick up if you haven’t.
“The social aspect plays a huge part and is a great way to meet people.
“It’s a super way to exercise, not just physically, but also mentally, and has great purpose.”
Peter Ferlie, Age UK Devon’s Active in Later Life Manager, praised the initiative.
He said: “This format of tennis has achieved its main aim, which was to help connect like-minded people to get back playing tennis, get fit, and have fun doing it.
“Sue Wiltshire has done a fantastic job in making the sessions accessible and fun, and it’s been great to see the improvement in the players’ ability over the last few weeks.”
