Amesbury’s mayor was thrown in the deep end during a walking rugby session.
Cllr Monica Devendran had never played rugby before but was invited to join in with a session at Amesbury Rugby Club on September 20.
She was taught the basics of the game and then joined the rest of the team to play games, and managed some rugby moves, including tackling and moving forward at speed with the ball.

The mayor said: “I had the pleasure of attending Amesbury Walking Rugby today.
“From the moment I arrived, I was made to feel very welcome by a genuinely friendly group of players.

“Walking Rugby is a fantastic way to keep active, meet new people, and enjoy the spirit of the game, and I would highly recommend it to anyone in the community who wants to give it a go.”
