A new festival is set to celebrate an inclusive and slower-paced version of the traditional game.
The first-ever Walking Cricket Festival in the South West will take place at Budleigh Salterton Cricket Club on Thursday, July 2, and will bring together teams from across Devon for a day of fun, friendly competition, and community spirit.
Walking cricket is a social, accessible format of cricket designed for players aged 50 and over.
Budleigh Salterton began its walking cricket sessions last season and now welcomes 20 to 30 participants each week.
Players come from a wide range of backgrounds, including former club cricketers, those who last played at school, and people entirely new to the sport.
The festival will run from 10am to 4pm, featuring matches on both of the club’s pitches with a break for lunch.
Spectators are welcome to come and enjoy the games, refreshments, and a day out by the sea.
