A new cricket format designed to be accessible for all has launched in Oxfordshire.
The county’s first-ever Walking Cricket session took place last Tuesday at Blenheim Palace, drawing participants from across the county.
The sessions are particularly suitable for older adults, people with health conditions, and anyone seeking a new, low-impact activity.
Shaz Khan, head of participation at Oxfordshire Cricket, said: “Firstly thank you to Blenheim Palace for hosting the event.
“We are looking forward to working in partnership with them on future projects.
“Many thanks to the participants who registered and turned up to give Walking Cricket a go. They came from all over the county to support our first ever session.
“They will be forever remembered as our Walking Cricket Champions.
“Hopefully, they can help promote and support the programme across all of Oxfordshire.
“There is definitely an appetite and interest. I am getting enquiries regularly.”
Walking Cricket is played with a soft ball, plastic bats, stumps and adapted rules.
It is designed to be inclusive and engaging for all, helping to improve health and wellbeing, reduce social isolation, and encourage new friendships.
The sessions are part of a wider plan to create multiple Walking Cricket hubs across Oxfordshire this summer.
The format is growing nationally and helping to increase participation in the sport.
