Harwich Walking Football Club have put plans in place to create a Women’s Walking Football team. Having received confirmation of funding from Active Essex , they are now going ahead to form a team from 1st of August 2021.

Derek Murr, Chairman of Harwich WFC says, “Walking Football for women has been continuously developing across the UK over the last 2 years and with this increase in the number of individuals participating across Essex and Suffolk, we feel it is the right time to create a Women’s Walking Football team to cater for this growth in our local communities and meet player needs. I would also like to thank Active Essex for their funding so we can now arrange walking football sessions especially for women.”

The club will be running one session a week starting on Tuesday 24th August 2021 between 4:00pm and 5:00pm. This will on Little Oakley FC’s 3G pitch. Sessions are £4.00 for the one hour. The first lesson will be FREE! These sessions are open to females aged 40+ of all abilities and experience levels.

If you are interested in joining them, please email Jenny Hill of [email protected] or telephone her on 07890 665883. All sessions will be run by Jenny Hill, who is a Level 1 FA qualified coach who is used to coaching from beginner level at walking football.

What to wear / bring – The sessions take place outdoors on Little Oakley FC’s 3G pitch, so players should wear suitable trainers and comfortable clothes suitable for the activity. It is advisable to bring a bottle of water with you. You will be taught at your own pace and help to give you the confidence. Whatever level you are, you will be fully involved and part of the Women’s Team. The main thing is to have fun, learn, have some gentle exercise, and have some great laughs along the way.

There is no regular competitive league for women in Essex yet, but as more women become involved in walking football, we anticipate leagues will naturally follow. We will enter occasional friendly tournaments whenever possible. All we ask is for you to turn up and enjoy the game in a relaxed safe environment.
