A weekly walking cricket initiative has become a hit with over-50s in Great Yarmouth.
Held at the Marina Centre, the event was launched in partnership with the Norfolk Cricket Board and the centre’s recreation team.
Initially introduced as a five-week trial in November 2024, the popularity of the sessions has seen them extended indefinitely.
More than 20 regular attendees enjoy the Thursday afternoon gatherings, which offer a sociable way to stay fit and engage in friendly competition.
Organised by the Marina Centre’s recreation team, the sessions present a low-impact version of cricket, appealing particularly to older adults or those seeking to gradually return to physical activity.

Beyond the game, participants frequently socialise in the on-site café, forging friendships and even participating in regional inter-group competitions.
The walking cricket sessions take place every Thursday from 12pm to 2pm, costing £5.25, which includes a hot drink and up to three hours of parking.
Those interested in joining are encouraged to visit the Marina Centre or contact their recreation team for more details on 01493 289119 or email jay.stephen@freedom-leisure.co.uk
