DO YOU ever look back on your younger sporting days, and wish you could re-live those golden moments? Or perhaps you’ve never been very sporty, but you have often watched others experience the camaraderie of being part of a team and felt a little envious?
Walking sports are a fun way to keep your energy up, make new friends, and look after your health.
Walking Cricket is the sport you’d love, just played at a slower pace – so it’s perfect for people who are older, or less physically able, but who still want to enjoy the thrill of the match. The game can be played as teams or in pairs. Everything is walking, including the ‘runs’ and fielding, and a match lasts about an hour. A soft ball is also used as opposed to a hard ball.
Whether you’re batting, bowling, or fielding, it’s a great form of cardio exercise. Plus it improves both agility and hand-eye coordination. If you ever enjoyed playing rounders at school, you’ll love a game of Walking Cricket. Get a group of guys and gals together, as Walking Cricket is a very social sport, filled with team spirit and fun.
Womens Walking Cricket is so popular that following success earlier in 2025 the Somerset Cricket Foundation are organising some extra sessions. These will take place at YMCA Highbridge, Huntspill Road, Highbridge, Somerset, TA9 3DD on Wednesdays – 1st October, 5th November and 3rd December, between 11.15 and 1.15pm.

All equipment is provided, so just go along wearing comfortable clothing. These Walking Cricket Women’s only sessions are open to anyone interested in walking cricket. The cost is £5 per each session payable online after registering.
Players will enjoy the sessions – and the fun that goes with them.
