Gentle new racket sport sessions launch to support local residents this winter
People living with Parkinson’s, a condition affecting the brain and movement, can join a new gentle sports programme designed to boost health and confidence this winter. The walking tennis sessions offer a fun way for local residents to stay active and make new friends in a supportive setting.
Staying active can provide major health benefits for people with the condition, including better balance, greater strength and improved coordination. Organisers have designed the gentle matches and movement games so anyone can take part regardless of their age or fitness level.
Family members and carers are also encouraged to join in the games or watch from the sidelines with a hot drink. Instructors from Arden Active CIC are running the friendly project with help from grant money provided by charity Parkinson’s UK.

Nic Sherratt, area development manager at Parkinson’s UK, said: “Walking tennis is brilliant for supporting mobility and overall wellbeing, but the social side is just as valuable. Arden Active is providing an accessible, supportive environment for people living with Parkinson’s living locally and we’re proud to champion initiatives that bring our communities together.”
The new project aims to help more families navigate the colder months with confidence and regular companionship. Anyone who wants to find out more about taking part can contact the organiser by email before attending.
