Highland Rugby Club invites players to remember the past and try walking rugby at new memories group

RETIRED rugby players, as well as fans of the sport, are being encouraged to get involved back in the game and remember days gone by with the launch of a new group.

Highland Rugby Club are inviting former rugby players as well as fans of the sport to the Remember, Remember the Memories Cafe sessions that are set to launch next week.

The initiative, which is the first of its kind to be launched at Highland Rugby Club, is looking to host regular sessions of walking rugby at Canal Park.

In addition, the project is also inviting people to come along to talks which will take place at the clubhouse and share stories and their experiences of matches that have taken place over the years.

Rugby Development Officer Ruaridh Macdonald is behind the project which is looking to re-engage with retired players and current fans.

He says the project offers the opportunity for people to enjoy the sport in a relaxed way as well as enjoy a regular social occasion.

He said: “We have been in talks for the past year to organise a community event for the club on a Wednesday.

“We have done a memories night before, but this is the first time we have done a project such as this to tie it in with walking rugby.”

The first session is set to take place on Wednesday, November 5 with a walking rugby session that will take place on the pitch at Canal Park during the morning.

Memories sessions will take place in the afternoon when guests in attendance will be encouraged to share old memories and memorabilia of the club and the sport…
