A Walking Tennis Festival is set to take place in Sidford this summer.
Age UK Devon and Sidford Tennis Club have joined forces to host the inaugural event on Tuesday, June 17.
The festival offers a chance for enthusiasts and newcomers alike to experience the sport at their own pace, either by participating or simply watching.
Organised by Age UK Devon and LTA-accredited coaches, the event will run from 11am to 2pm and costs £6, which includes lunch.
Sue Wiltshire, an LTA tennis coach who will lead the activities, said: “This is a game that is open to everybody—whether you are a lifelong tennis player, a complete beginner or just need a bit more time to get into the swing of things, you can give the game a try in a supportive setting.”
Walking tennis is designed for all ages and abilities, with modifications to the traditional sport to ensure inclusivity.
These include allowing the ball to bounce twice, playing on a smaller court, using modified equipment, and prohibiting running or jumping.
Sue added: “You can play tennis at any age and walking tennis offers an easy way for older people to keep their body and mind active—while also enjoying the social side of being part of a tennis community.”

The festival will also include walking tennis activities designed to improve coordination skills and the popular walking tennis triples experience.
Sidford Tennis Club provides an annual walking tennis membership for £50, which includes access to club facilities, coaching, and social events.
The club invites all to the festival, whether they are just starting out, returning from injury, or need a bit more time getting to the ball.
This initiative aims to foster a sense of community and encourage physical activity amongst all age groups.
