Stafford Diamonds went unbeaten to lift the trophy at a walking netball tournament which raised £1,900 for charity
Stafford Walking Netball is celebrating after its Stafford Diamonds team was crowned champions at the Harbury Hornets Walking Netball Tournament.
The tournament, held on Sunday, September 20, saw seven teams compete, with Stafford Diamonds finishing top of the table after five wins and one draw from their six matches.
They finished with 16 points, ahead of runners-up Tudor Queens and third-placed Beechy Blinders.
The event, organised by Harbury Hornets Walking Netball, also raised £1,900 for Breast Cancer Now and Flourish, which supports women and girls.
Stafford Diamonds captain Suzie Godwin named Eunice Boote as Player of the Tournament in recognition of her contribution to the team’s success.
She said: “It was a fantastic day, played in the true spirit of walking netball. Everyone demonstrated true team spirit that has become a hallmark of our club.
“We’re delighted to come away as tournament winners, but it was equally special to be part of a day that raised so much for two important charities.”
The latest victory continues a successful period for Stafford Walking Netball, which combines competitive sport with friendship, physical activity and community fundraising.
The club has players ranging from their 30s through to their 80s.
Chair Joy Reading said: “We are incredibly proud of the Diamonds. Winning the tournament is a wonderful achievement, but what makes days like this particularly special is the sense of community around walking netball.
“Teams compete hard on court but come together to support one another and, on this occasion, to help raise an amazing £1,900 for Breast Cancer Now and Flourish.”
