People living with Parkinson’s as well as their relatives or carers can join a ‘try-athlon’ challenge in June to test their bodies and minds with a series of physical challenges.
The annual sport festival is being staged in Twickenham on June 22 to encourage more people to stay active.
The aim is trying out activities in a supporting environment for anyone with a connection to Parkinson’s, whether it’s themselves or someone they know like a relative, carer, friend or their family.
“Exercise and engagement are important,” Cure Parkinson’s facilities chief executive Helen Matthews said. “It’s this same positivity that drives us to search for a cure.”
The ‘Try-athlon’ is a mix of ‘walking’ sports such as netball, cricket, tennis, rugby and football, as well as ‘seated and standing’ activities like static cycling, shadow non-contact boxing, golf, Nordic walking, table tennis, rowing, Pilates, singing and dancing.
An ‘expert zone’ is being set up to meet professional health carers who include Parkinson’s nurses, charities, tech companies, reflexologists and dieticians with Parkinson’s specific dietary advice…
