My name is Pippa Jones, and I’m a Trainee Clinical Psychologist at the University of Essex, currently carrying out my PhD research into how and why walking sports affect psychological wellbeing in older adults.

I’m writing to ask whether you’d be able to pass on details of my study to your newsletter, webpage or Facebook group to attract players who might be interested in taking part. I’m looking to speak with players aged 65 and over, as well as coaches or organisers involved in delivering walking hockey sessions, for a confidential one-to-one interview about their experiences.

WV Active Aldersley will host Wolverhampton's second Walking Hockey Festival this weekend. It is being organised by Wolverhampton and Tettenhall Hockey Club with the support of the City of Wolverhampton Council and WV Active and will feature 8 teams from across the region. All profits will go to local dementia and Motor Neurone Disease charities. Increasing in popularity, walking hockey is perfect for players who are looking for a less physically demanding version of the game but still enjoy showing their skills and being involved in the team and social aspect of the sport, or those who want to experience a new sport for the first time. The Walking Hockey Festival takes place at WV Active Aldersley from 1pm to 4pm on Saturday (16 May, 2026).
