Thatcham walk tall in the world’s largest festival

Thatcham walking rugby travelled to Kingswood RFC in Bristol on July 11 to take part in the world’s largest walking rugby festival.

This year’s event brought together 52 teams from 42 clubs, creating a celebration of one of the UK’s fastest-growing inclusive sports.

Organised by Kingswood Titans Walking Rugby team, the festival was a huge success, with players from across the country enjoying a day of friendly competition, sportsmanship and camaraderie.

Thatcham’s team played six matches, recording two wins, two draws and two narrow defeats.

No official league table or scores were kept, with the emphasis firmly on enjoyment, respect and making new friendships.

One of the highlights for the Thatcham squad was the opportunity to play against Nailsea Silver Ravens, whose team included guest George Taylor from Bristol Bears.

Thatcham Walking Rugby is keen to welcome new players of all abilities.

Whether you’re a former player, someone who has never picked up a rugby ball before, or simply want to improve your fitness and meet new people, everyone is welcome.

Training takes place every Wednesday (6.45pm-8pm), on Henwick Worthy Sports grounds and no previous experience is required.

Walking rugby is a fun, social and inclusive sport for men and women of all ages and abilities, offering all the enjoyment of rugby without the tackling or running.
