Friendship, fun and fabulous footwork – Walking Netball in a Novel!

This warm-hearted comedy follows a WI walking netball team whose members discover that there is rather more to the game than getting the ball through the hoop. Between competitive rivalries, questionable tactics, mishaps on court and the inevitable dramas off it, the team quickly proves that winning isn’t necessarily the most important part of the game.

Because for these women, the real victory is the friendship they have found along the way.

Chasing Gilbert is a celebration of the fun and camaraderie that comes from being part of a team — where a good laugh, a shared joke and putting the world to rights over a cuppa can be worth far more than the final score. And with plenty of laugh-out-loud moments, the book affectionately captures the wonderfully unpredictable world of women, friendship and life on and off the netball court.

It is a comedy about finding your people, having a go, and discovering that sometimes the best part of the game happens long after the final whistle.

Bexhill Belles Walking Netball is a fantastic place to take part in a more relaxed version of the sport. The sessions have even been recommended by a physio at a local hospital for ladies who need a gentle route back to full fitness. The group was started in 2016 by Anne Brooks, a former Physical Education teacher. She wanted to continue playing a form of netball and share her knowledge and enthusiasm for the game. This enthusiasm continues ten years on by all players, and the group’s “Netball Hosts” who bring different skills and fun games to each session. The group’s three Hosts have attended courses run by All England Netball Association, subsidised by Rother District Council.
