New walking rugby sessions are giving people living with dementia the chance to stay active and social.
Launched by Age Connects Torfaen at New Panteg RFC, the dementia-friendly sport sessions offer a safe, low-impact introduction to rugby.
The sessions are part of the charity’s Active Connections programme.
Sammy-Jo Jennings, of Age Connects Torfaen, said: “Research shows regular exercise offers powerful benefits for people living with dementia.
“It helps maintain mobility, balance, and cardiovascular health, but the familiarity of playing rugby can also bring back positive memories from when they were younger.
“Our goal is to help participants develop a sporting hobby, enjoy being active, and experience the many physical, mental, and social benefits that sport and nature can bring.”
The sessions take place every Tuesday from 1.30pm to 2.30pm.
They are open to all abilities, whether individuals have played rugby before or are new to the sport.
Ms Jennings said: “Thank you goes to New Panteg RFC for their generosity and support.
“Their willingness to provide access to their facilities has been invaluable and demonstrates a real commitment to supporting local people and community wellbeing.”
Each session costs £5 per week.
