Sidford Tennis Club has hosted its second consecutive walking tennis festival.
The Age UK Devon Walking Tennis Festival took place on July 8, and welcomed both new and existing members for a day of activities and matches.
The event began with physio-led warm-up sessions, including tai chi and pilates, to prepare participants for the day.
Coaching focused on the basics of walking tennis, an adapted format of the sport where players can allow the ball to bounce twice and are restricted to walking rather than running.
The sessions progressed in intensity, culminating in a triples tournament that put newly learned skills to the test in a friendly, knockout competition.
Walking tennis is growing in popularity, particularly among older adults, those returning to the sport after injury, and people with no previous tennis experience.
A spokesman from Sidford Tennis Club said: “Due to this rising popularity, the club would like to extend an invitation to new members wishing to join the Walking Tennis group in September, where a discount on the membership fee will be available.”
More information is available on the Sidford Tennis Club website or by emailing the club’s senior LTA coach at sue.wiltshire.t21@btinternet.com
